Minutes of the Administrative Boards
of the General College and the College of Arts and Sciences
Tuesday, September 18, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 3:30 p.m. and chaired by Senior Associate Dean Bobbi Owen.

Senior Associate Dean Owen conducted a brief orientation for new members prior to the meeting of the full Boards.
1. Welcome by Senior Associate Dean Bobbi Owen
Senior Associate Dean Bobbi Owen welcomed members and thanked them for attending the first Administrative Boards meeting of the new academic year.
2. Name change for the Department of African and Afro-American Studies and Revised Major in African, African-American, and Diaspora Studies
After much discussion, it became apparent that more information was needed. Eunice Sahle, department chair, will be asked to attend the next meeting on October 30, 2012.
3. Statement on the Contents of a Course Syllabus
The Administrative Boards considered a draft statement describing information to be included on a course syllabus, together with current requirements. After considerable discussion about the meaning of “student learning outcomes,” the Boards approved the Statement on the Contents of a Course Syllabus. Individual units will need to discuss internally the way in which “student learning outcomes” apply to their discipline.
4. Curriculum Committee Report and Miscellaneous Curriculum Changes
The Curriculum Committee Report and miscellaneous curriculum change proposals will be sent out on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, to be approved via email [Note: these two reports were approved].
Informational reports were attached to the miscellaneous curriculum changes notifying the Boards of course numbering changes that were enacted over the summer of 2012, effective with the fall 2013 term.
5. Adjournment
Because a meeting of the General Faculty was called due to the recently announced resignation of Chancellor Holden Thorpe, the Administrative Boards meeting was adjourned early at 4:02 p.m.
