Minutes of the Administrative Boards
of the General College and the College of Arts and Sciences

The meeting was called to order at 3:35 p.m. and chaired by Senior Associate Dean Bobbi Owen.

1. New Graduate Certificate in Jewish Studies, Department of Religious Studies. The Boards approved the graduate certificate in Jewish studies, which will be housed in the Department of Religious Studies. Members expressed the concern that the courses listed in Item 12 of the proposal may not all “focus” on Jewish studies and that the list perhaps is broader than it might be. Associate Dean Lindemann will convey the Boards’ comments to Stephanie Schmitt in the Graduate School.

2. Independent Study Task Force. Senior Associate Dean Owen highlighted substantive portions of a draft of the Task Force report, the appendix defining several types of independent study courses, and a sample contract for such work. The Boards discussed the report’s recommendations and offered suggestions. A final draft will be presented at the meeting on April 17.

3. Curriculum Committee Report. The Boards approved the Curriculum Committee’s report, effective fall 2012.

4. Miscellaneous Curriculum Changes. The Boards approved, as amended, the following curriculum changes, effective fall 2012:

Curriculum in Archaeology
